2014 - The Busiest Year Yet

School has closed and we are now all on our summer holidays. It has been such a busy and wonderful year with Class 13. We have all learnt a great deal together, and had so much fun along the way.

It was very sad to say goodbye on Wednesday, our last day of school. We said goodbye not only to each other, but to the lovely Mrs O'Neill who has spent time in our classroom this year. We hope you come back and see us next year.

Congratulations to all the students of Class 13 for an incredible year. You all made fantastic progress in your learning, and you also grew up a lot too. A special congratulations must go to our prizewinners:

  • Atareita, Paige and Mitchell for their academic awards
  • Samoa for citizenship
  • John for effort
  • Noah and Simon for performing arts

Also, well done to Ajani, Noah and Mitchell for being selected by Mr Burt to be school photographers for 2014.

Have a safe and happy holiday, and I'll see you all next year!

Michael Jackson

A couple of weeks ago, three boys from Class 13 performed a Michael Jackson dance for the whole school at assembly. They worked very hard on their moves and looked incredible! Well done, Simon, Ajani and Noah, from all of us in Class 13! You made us proud!

Going to the zoo.

When we went to school we put our names tags on and sat on the mat. And there the parents helpers were in front of us with our teacher. Then we went in the Breeze with the other teachers. We got on the bus and me and Noah and Ajani were sitting together. We saw a big boat in the city.
Then we got out of the bus.
We looked at the zebras and they were drinking water, then they started to run away.
My best one was the meer cat tunnel. Me and Ajani and Noah and Mitchell went through. There were some ladders to climb. When we got out we went to see the apes. We saw one under the bridge and one on top. We went to have a sit down then our leader asked if we wanted to go to the park. We said yes!

ANZAC Day Activities

Room 10 has been learning about ANZAC Day, which is on 25th April in our school holidays. We had a look at a fantastic website and learnt about what happened at Gallipoli in World War 1.

Click here to look at the website.

Today we made poppies to remember the people who died in World War 1.

Today's writing task...

This morning we picked a setting, character and a plot from some prompt cards - we got "The Beach" as the setting, "A Pirate" as the character and "Win 1 Million Dollars" as the plot. Here are some of the great sentences the kids in Room Ten wrote:

At the beach we saw a boat heading this way. They scanned the sand because they were trying to find the treasure chest. (Steven)

There was a pirate named Nate. He dug a huge hole at the beach and he found 1 million dollars. So he ran away with the money. The cops were chasing him. Some of them had tazers and cars. Some others were strong. (Simon)

Did you know that a pirate found one million dollars at the beach? The pirate was hiding one million dollars for himself and he was tricky. When we was sleeping in the night some people took the beach at his house but he didn't know that the beach was gone! When he was awake he sent to the beach and saw no beach there and he got very sad because the beach was gone from the back door. (Samoa)

Once upon a time there was an evil grumpy pirate who liked to go to the beach. One day when he was at the beach he sat down on a deck chair feeling grumpy because the people were stealing his beach. He yelled at the people "Get Off My Beach!" Then he saw one person swimming in the blue and bright water. The pirate swam to him. He said "Get out of my bright and blue water!" He went out of the water and ran away from the pirate. He ran up a tree and his million dollars fell out of his bag. All his stuff fell out of his bag - his glasses fell out, his sunscreen fell. The pirate got all his stuff and he lived happily ever after. (Kerstein)

The Point England Way

Here are some of our self portraits that we created for our Inquiry topic - The Point England Way. They are up on the wall outside our classroom if you want to come and see the real versions!
